Initiative to Help Mariners at the Port of Wilmington

We can help hundreds of mariners at the Port of Wilmington.  Although the seamen on the ships which come into the Port of Wilmington are not allowed (since 9/11) to leave the port enclosure, they can go to the Seamen’s Center at the port.  Since there is no shopping available there, the Center hands out “Ditty Boxes” when available.

Gene Zaiser has volunteered to take up to five boxes of supplies to the Center once a month. These boxes contain items that the seamen often request: combs, razors, playing cards, cough drops, sewing kits, soap, warm socks, deodorant, shampoo, Chapstick, candy, gum, hand lotion, pens, stationery, winter gloves, watch caps, and scarves. Knitting directions are available at link below. We will also need shoe boxes.

Bring in your donations and place them in the white box in the Narthex. Thank you for your help with this mission.
